  • Mortal Kombat - by AM00

    Introduction:

Mortal Kombat is the first game Mortal Kombat (MK) game on the Super NES. It includes you’re the normal characters from most Mortal Kombat games: Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sonya, Kano, Rayden and Liu Kang.

    Graphics [8/10]:

Mortal Kombat's graphics are like DKCs graphics. The people look good and you can see the light moving on then. The characters are fully rendered with lots of detail and good animation. The graphics are way above average for a 1993 game and could only really be improved with ACM.

    Music and Sound [6.5/10]:

The music in MK is OK. It's gets boring after a while but overall it's average. What really pushes MK up to 6 are the great voice effects in the game. It's very hard to become bored of 'Come over here!' but after a while others such as 'win' become boring. The other effects are the same as you would expect from any 16-bit fighting game. It's good, but Street Fighter II Turbos sounds are better.

    Game Play [6/10]:

It's a fighting game. MK stands out from others with the amazing weapons, you can freeze, pull and strangle your opponents. All of the moves however are very hard to master. In MK you fight all the other characters and then try 3 endurance tests. This is where you fight 2 people instead of one. The difficulty of the second depends on the amount of damage you have taken. If you have full life you can kill the second person in one hit. You then fight a multi-armed guy before going onto the boss. What really lets MK down is the way the game play does not change when you fight the different people.

    Challenge and Replay [7/10]:

I will have to split these in two: Challenge 10/10, Replay 4/10. The good news, MK is hard. Very hard. There are modes ranging from Very Easy to Very Hard. As described in Game Play above the multi layers of people, endurance then bosses lengthens the game. The next thing is Replay. This is an annoying game that does not just get you frustrated, it gets you fuming. The moves are hard to do and the finishers are amazing when they work. You get so annoyed with this game it just becomes boring and useless. If you are easily frustrated, don't buy this game.

    Conclusion/Overall [6.5/10]:

This game is a mixture of good and bad things, and your taste in games will determine if you like MK or not. My friend loves MK, he thinks it is one of the best games. I don't like MK very much. If you like fighting games or just want the occasional annual fight, MK is good. For everyone else who is looking for a fighting game buy Street Fighter II Turbo. It's so much better than MK.
